Today THQ’s demise is final, their employees were given a memo asking them to have their belongings gone by the end of their shift.
“Today the Court approved the sale of several of THQ’s assets,” the memo begins. “While some THQ employees are expected to be offered employment by the new owners, some positions will no longer be needed under the company’s new structure. We regret that your position is included in this latter category.”

The memo explains that employees have until the end of the day to remove personal items from their desk — after today “access to the building will be shut off” — and that the final round of payroll will occur today. Health benefits will continue until January 31st, with the possibility for up to one more month via an outsourced insurance service. Life insurance coverage will also terminate today, as will short-term or long-term disability coverage.
It has also been noted that it is not likely any of the employees will receive severance for their collected vacation days. The only good news out of the whole situation is the fact that their 401k’s are available due to the fact that they were in a trust and were not part of the bankruptcy and liquidation.
This just goes to show, as one door closes another one opens. Just yesterday Naughty Dog announced they were hiring many different positions and now today many people in the same exact field lose their jobs. I can relate, a company I worked for once lost their contract while we were on winter break and I lost my job via letter. Never a good feeling, hopefully they all make it through.
